Engineering Probabilistic Design and Maintenance for Flood Protection
Published in Hardcover by Kluwer Academic Publishers (June, 1997)
Average review score:

Where civil engineers meet statisticians...This book gives a very nice collection of 4 case studies on Engineering Probabilistic Design and Maintenance for Flood Protection. Each case study is reviewed in detail from an engineering point of view, a mathematical point of view, and a problem's owner point of view. Each author of the case study has added a reply to the reviews. The book will be appreciated by civil engineers who deal with flood protection issues and mathematicians who are interested in applying their probabilistic models in practice.

Enterprise, Greatest of the Flattops
Published in Hardcover by Dodd Mead (January, 1900)
Average review score:

Secondary School History of CVN-65There's not much info available about this title elsewhere, so ... Published in 1963, this is basically "A Day in the Life of CVN-65", the currently commissioned, nuclear-powered aircraft carrier Enterprise. It runs 128 pages, has about 50 black-and-white photographs -- some fairly interesting ones at that -- and a brief history of the seven previous ships named Enterprise (including the Big E, of World War II fame).
My guess is it was targeted at secondary school readers: grades 8 and up. Interesting reading, especially for insights into what the 60's Navy was like.

Famous Indian Tribes

Average review score:

indian facesthis childrens book is filled with some of the most wonderful sketches and art work of indians. this book is not true to fact . But it does have an easy to read interesting story line that shows the culture ,wisdom and greatness of some wonderful indians in history. It so briefly covers the indians from the east to west coast, with some very interesting information on how they lived, what they wore and thier beliefs. I liked this book. And for a book published in 1954 it is really well done.

The Lake
Published in Paperback by Avon (August, 1989)
Average review score:

"The Lake" , worthy to be called King calliber reading!"The Lake" is a very fun read. The characters are portrayed very well. I would like to see much more from this author. Before I found "The Lake" in my grandmother's book collection, I had never heard of Mr. Jensen. I read horror (go Stephen King!) so naturally I loved it. I was surprised that is was so good. Because usually your better books are the more heard of ones. Like I said, I would like to see MUCH more from R. J. Jensen!
East Germany is a remarkable area for study. Alone of the formerly communist Eastern Bloc states, it has completely disappeared from the map with no "successor state" to replace it, being absorbed (practically by Anschluss) into the Federal Republic of Germany. Also unlike the other states, its archives have been completely opened to scholars, meaning that we can now look into the state and party files -- including those of the Stasi -- while many of the main actors are still alive. The result has been that -- far from an abandonment of East German studies following that state's disappearance -- scholarship is continuing in exciting directions by young and upcoming researchers, as this volume testifies.
